DSCSA Small Dispenser Exemption Extended Through November 2027

The FDA has extended exemptions from certain Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requirements for small dispensers through November 27, 2027.

For purposes of the exemption, FDA defines a small dispenser as a pharmacy or other dispenser whose owning company has 25 or fewer full-time employees licensed as pharmacists or qualified as pharmacy technicians as of November 27, 2026.

The additional time is intended to support implementation of enhanced electronic drug tracing requirements. FDA continues to encourage small dispensers to work toward full implementation during the exemption period.

Independent pharmacy owners should review their current DSCSA processes and remain in communication with their trading partners and technology providers as implementation continues.
