The Beginning
In 1978, ten pharmacists and one certified public accountant (CPA) piled into a recreational vehicle (RV) and headed to Arkansas to see how a wholesale operated. They had no blueprint and no outside backing, only a shared belief that independent pharmacies deserved something better.
They returned to Louisiana with a mission and built Louisiana Wholesale Drug Company (LWD) from the ground up. A wholesaler created by pharmacists who valued fairness, stability, and true partnership.
Purpose That Endures
Growing With Intention
From its original group of pharmacists, LWD has grown to 178 stockholders serving more than 200 stores. We remain one of the top privately held companies in southwest Louisiana, expanding thoughtfully while preserving the ownership model that defines who we are.
What those founding pharmacists built has served generations of stores and continues to grow with the same purpose today.
We honor their vision by growing with intention. Not to be big. Not to be flashy. But to stay strong for the pharmacists and patients who rely on us.

Growth With Responsibility
As the company grew, so did the need to invest in infrastructure that supported long-term service.
When our original 40,000-square-foot facility reached capacity, LWD expanded by an additional 26,144 square feet to better serve pharmacies beyond Louisiana while maintaining the relationships and service standards our partners expect.

People Make the Difference
Independent pharmacy moves fast. Your ordering system should keep up.
At LWD, service is personal. Our team knows our stores by name and takes pride in supporting them. Many of our employees have been here for decades, and their commitment shows in every order, every call, and every interaction.
We are a wholesaler, but we are also a community of people who care deeply about the pharmacies we serve. That is what has kept LWD strong for nearly fifty years.

How We Work
